17 July 2024 — david-allen

Sarcoma is one of the rarest cancer types in the UK, equating to around 5,300 diagnosis each year – just 1.3% of cancer types. The main types of sarcoma are soft tissue sarcomas and bone sarcomas.

July is Sarcoma Awareness Month, so we’re shining a light on some of the support organisations for those living with sarcoma in the UK.

Sarcoma UK

As the UK’s only charity specialising in Sarcoma awareness, this organisation is invaluable. They continue to campaign for better treatments and improved standards of care whilst raising awareness and funding research into all types of sarcoma. It runs a confidential telephone and text support line, and signposts to local face-to-face and online peer support groups.

Children with Cancer UK

The three most common childhood sarcomas are osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. Children with Cancer UK are an organisation that helps children and families affected by cancer. Their comprehensive website provides information about child sarcomas and the charity provides free fun days out, funds vital support services and free accommodation close to children’s hospitals across the UK.

Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust

Ewing sarcoma is a rare type of primary bone cancer that sees approximately 56 new cases each year in the UK that is usually diagnosed in children and young people. The Ewing’s Sarcoma Research Trust specialises in research, awareness and fundraising.

Bone Cancer Research Trust

This charity specialises in primary bone cancers and bone sarcomas and offers a free support line as well as online information and webinars. They also offer virtual support groups to anyone affected by bone cancer as well as small one-off financial grants to those in need.
